This is a precision instrument that when installed into the long milk tube between each milking unit and the pipeline will take a proportional milk sample from the milk flow. The milk meter retains a small proportion of the yield in a calibrated flask from which the cow’s total yield may be read, or the flask may be removed for weighing and the sampling ratio applied to obtain the milk yield. The flask contents my then be gently agitated and a smaller representative sub-sample drawn off for milk composition analysis.
