A Waikato TCR (teat cup remover) is a manually operated device its job to automatically remove the cluster from the cow at the end of milking. Using cup removers reduces the possibility of over milking and allows one person to operate larger milking systems. There are three parts to the system, an 80mm PVC ram, an initiator and an inline milk filter.
Activation is easy and made by moving a lever on the initiator from an off position to a milking position. The initiator will allow the cow to milk down to pre determined level approx 0.25 Lpm or ½ Lbpm before the float operated valve shuts the vacuum off to the cups. A powerful 80mm PVC ram has a 900mm stroke that will accommodate both herringbone and rotary installations. In the event that cups a prematurely kicked off the cup remover will activate and the cups will be lifted clear. An automator can be fitted to the initiator that allows for automatic switching without further user intervention.
Waikato TCR’s as they are commonly known are an ideal low cost solution to automatic cup removal and were designed originally for use in swing-over herringbones. Their application is limited and more modern electronic equipment now exists (albeit in a much higher price bracket) that allows a wider range of features to be employed.
